It was the second most beautiful course I’ve ever run, the first being the Yorkshireman in the UK, so hard to compete with that. Packet pickup was seamless, the volunteers were kind, enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. The course was well marked, and the perfect kind of challenge. There were plenty of porta-potties. The t-shirts are cute, and the blanket is a great piece of swag. Well done! I can’t wait to run it (hiking those hills) again.

There are some races we run to GET a great time, and there are other races we run to HAVE a great time – I’d probably be faster if I didn’t keep stopping to take photos.

Personally, I prefer beautiful vistas, friendly runners and local folks along the way, autumn leaves, fences lined with horses and sheep with whom we’re interacting.

Also, we don't expect the need to use the Town Of Middleburg's Parking, but just in case, we have received special permission to use their street parking and municipal parking lots. These are locations in town just a block or so away from The Hill School. If you do end up parking in Town, then to get to The Hill School there is a small footbridge connecting the Town to The Hill School's grounds at the end of PENDLETON ST (see blue arrow at the bottom of the image). (https://www.google.com/maps/dir//38.9670947,-77.7359082/@38.9672057,-77.7362488,169m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!4m1!3e2). Go across the footbridge and follow the signs to the Start/Finish area.

Causes:

A portion of net proceeds will go to the following charities:

The Piedmont Environmental Council. PEC’s work is grounded in civic engagement. We serve as a vital ally for people when the places and natural resources that they care about are threatened, directing grassroots energy into effective strategies. PEC’s professional staff is on the ground in our nine counties, with the expertise to assist local governments. We also work in Washington and Richmond — advising both legislators and agency officials. Our cutting-edge mapping, internet and advocacy tools help us communicate with and inform the public. All of these tools, coupled with decades of experience, gives PEC the ability to take on even the most overwhelming threats and persistent development pressure. We work with decision-makers at the local, state and national level, and we mobilize residents to take effective action on crucial issues.

Promoting and protecting the natural resources, rural economy, history and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont since 1972.

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. This fund is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Begun in 2000 and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided nearly $200 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund.

Other Non-profit Beneficiaries:

Founded in 1926 and located in Middleburg, Virginia, The Hill School has been serving students for nearly 100 years. Hill values Community and Total Education with each student being meaningfully engaged in a challenging core academic program, and a broad co-curricular program that includes Art, Music, Athletics, and Theater. Students explore areas of interest and passions while being exposed to many new possibilities. When home and school work in partnership, children become increasingly self-motivated and confident, and they maximize their growth and development academically, socially, emotionally, artistically, and athletically. Hill School has been voted the Best Private School for the last four years in the Best of Loudoun poll.

Special Notes:

Please note that we will require picture identification for adults in order for participants to receive their race packet (no id = no run). Participants 17 and under don't need to show an ID if they are accompanied by an adult who has a valid ID.

The roads will be closed to through traffic.

Race Map:

All routes depicted are the general path that the race will take. Due to technical restrictions from the mapping service, the distances reflected may not be calculated correctly by the mapping service. ODR will, however, measure and provide an enjoyable and accurate route.
